Register of lifts: New obligation for all property owners

Sparrow-Register of lifts: New obligation for all property owners

The Ministry of Development is calling on all property owners to register their lifts on the online platform elevator.mindev.gov.gr by 30 November 2025.

The aim is to create a comprehensive National Register of Lifts, giving the state a clear picture of the exact number of operational lifts in the country, their location, and their technical characteristics.

Why the lift census is being carried out

The census of lifts is part of the state’s effort to strengthen prevention and public safety by establishing a unified inspection framework. Upon completion, each lift will receive a unique registration number, enabling better planning of inspections, maintenance, and preventative policies.

What owners need to do

The process is simple, quick, and free of charge, and does not require advanced digital skills.

Owners log in to the platform using their Taxisnet credentials and provide basic information, such as the Cadastral ID (KAEK) and full property address, the year the lift was installed, the number of stops, and whether a Declaration of Conformity (CE) is available. If any information is unknown, the relevant field can be marked accordingly.

The obligation applies to all lifts, whether in residential buildings, mixed-use buildings, or buildings for public use.

Mixed-use buildings are those with residential areas and offices on the upper floors, or retail at ground level with flats above.

Public-use buildings include public services, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and cultural venues.

Penalties for non-compliance

Owners who fail to register their lift by the deadline of 30 November 2025 face the following fines:

€1,000 for lifts in residential buildings

€2,500 for lifts in mixed-use buildings

€5,000 for lifts in public-use buildings

What this means for Airbnb owners

This obligation also applies to those letting properties on short-term rental platforms, such as Airbnb and Booking. Proper registration of the lift is a prerequisite for the lawful operation of the property within the evolving safety and certification framework.

Deadline: 30 November 2025
